they certainly will, they will attach to just about anything and everything.

Yes, they attach to everything....I used to have one that attached itself to the side of my house. If they can attach to a stucco house, a wooden post would not be any trouble.
Reply:VC climbs up living trees and brickwork and stone walls, so I think wooden posts wouldn't present any problem. Like ivy, it just keeps going!
