There are a few ways to kill it.. My dad had it growing over a pergola until i sorted it out once and for all...
1. spray it off when its in full leaf with Round-up (glyphosate), you may need to do a couple of applications, depending on size. (This kills anything green! its non-selective)
2. cut it off at the base and spray with Garlon 4 (triclopyr), this will only kill broad leaved weeds and woody stemmed plants. it will not damage grass.. its a great chemical to have around.
Most garden centers will have a product that contains the active ingredient (triclopyr) or (glyphosate) Use which one suits.
