What is the most effective method of getting rid of virginia creeper?

You can dig as much as possible out or spray with weed killer but you will still get sprouts. Go to a farm feed and seed store and ask for spike. It is granular and a tsp. or so sprinkled over the plant will help kill it. No matter what you try it will take several attempts to totally get rid of it. The stuff is tough.

What is the most effective method of getting rid of virginia creeper?
chop it all away and get rid of the roots
Reply:Use one of these 3 methods to eliminate it.

1. If your lucky it is susceptible to copper sulfate. Dig enough to expose a foot or more of the root. Slide a plastic garbage bag under the root and mix put some copper sulfate on the bag then wrap the bag around the root and bury it. You should notice the plant start to look sick after a week. If you dont notice any change after 2 weeks then dig up and remove the bag along with the copper sulfate. You dont want to leave that in the ground because it will poison other plants you try to grow.

2. Cut the plant down, dig out as much of the root as you can. Then apply full strength Roundup. Not the prediluted stuff, get the full strength stuff. Repeat every time it pops up, with a little persistence this will kill it.

3. Cut the plant down flush with the ground every time it pops up. Eventually it will use up all its roots trying to grow. You can let it grow until it shows its first leaf before cutting it.
Reply:chop it down, pour chlorine bleach directly into the trunk.
